Hello All!

I am an artist out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am a student at the University of New Mexico and in the process of getting my degree in Fine Art and a minor in Psychology. In the fall of 2017 I will finally be considered apart of the real world (aka I am graduating)

All of my Bird Girls are  done on canvas and the girls are created with sharpies and through a very long series of dots, or stippling, and the backgrounds are created with water color using different brushes to create different textures and shades

I create my Bird Girls to raise awareness for mental illnesses and what cooler way to do so than expressing that through art. If we can start the conversation involving mental health than we can get rid of these nasty stereotypes and know that we are not alone with our demons and mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of or scared of. You do not have to be your metal illness even through sometimes it may feel like you and may look a little like you it does not have to define you. You do not have to be one in the same. I created my Bird Girls without the  intention of mental illness but rather in the thought of women being looked at as weak and frail and "Bird" like but really are strong, beautiful and magnificent beings just like a bird. Yet as I grow so do they, ever changing and constantly surprising even me. I hope that you can find one of these lovely ladies that speaks to you and that they hold as special of a place in your heart as they do my own.

Love,

Alexandrea.G
